Church Government

Roles in the Church

Risen Christ Church is an elder-led, congregationally-governed, and deacon-served local church—a structure we believe reflects the wisdom of Scripture for the health of the church.

Elders

Pastors and elders are two terms for the same biblical office—men who meet the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, charged with the spiritual oversight, teaching, and shepherding of the congregation through prayer, preaching, counseling, and discipleship.

Congregation

The congregation holds genuine authority—not as a democracy that reflects the preferences of its members, but as an assembly that answers to King Jesus, entrusted with affirming who belongs to the body, guarding the church’s doctrine, and holding its leaders accountable to God’s Word. This authority is exercised under the leadership of the pastors—a shared accountability before God that we believe reflects the New Testament pattern for a healthy church.

Deacons

Deacons are leading servants—men and women of proven character and godly wisdom who organize and mobilize the whole church in caring for its practical needs so that the elders can devote themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word.

Elders

Pastoral Team

Risen Christ Church is led by a plurality of elders, each sharing the same authority and accountability before God while serving in different areas of responsibility.

Manny Prieto

Pastor

Manny was born and raised in Miami, FL to Cuban and Nicaraguan parents. After graduating from Florida International University, he moved to Raleigh to pursue an M.Div. at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was one of the founding members of Imago Dei Church in Raleigh, where he and his wife Jillian met. Together they have four beautiful daughters, two by adoption. Manny served as a pastor of Imago Dei Church from 2014 until planting Risen Christ Church in 2024.

Shane Shaddix

Pastor

Shane spent time growing up in New Orleans and Denver before eventually attending Union University in Jackson, TN. There he met his future wife, Alicia, whom he married in 2010. They moved to the RDU area in 2011 to attend Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and join the core team of Imago Dei Church. They now have six children with whom they enjoy baseball, camping, and lots of books. Shane served as a pastor of Imago Dei Church from 2014 until planting Risen Christ Church in 2024.
